What is b-corp and why does it matter?
B Corp certification is awarded by B Lab to businesses that meet the highest verified standards of social and environmental performance, accountability, and transparency. To earn it, a company must demonstrate - through rigorous, evidence-based assessment - that it balances profit with the needs of people and planet.
It is not a marketing badge. It is not a box-ticking exercise. It is one of the most demanding business accreditations in the world, and the majority of companies that pursue it do not pass. Those that do have proved, beyond doubt, that they are using business as a force for good.
Bombaby is proud to be one of them.
The why
Sustainability was never part of the business plan. It was simply always there; woven into every decision from the very beginning, long before B Corp was even a conversation.
Perhaps it comes from twenty years spent in education, with welfare and the safeguarding of others at the centre of everything. Perhaps it is the Rutland countryside on the doorstep. Most likely, it is both. Either way, the belief that a business should be built around people and values - not in spite of margins, but alongside them - has always been the Bombaby way.
The fashion industry is a complex beast. Shortcuts are constantly being made: in the fabrics chosen, in the treatment of the teams who make them, in the quiet compromises that keep prices low and margins fat. From the outset, we knew we wanted to build something we were genuinely proud of. A brilliant team. Decisions made with care. A brand that could look itself in the eye.
Pursuing B Corp certification felt only right — external recognition for the hard work we had always been doing. And we learnt a great deal about ourselves along the way. Genuinely. It clarified, challenged, and confirmed who we are. We would not change a moment of it.

Our customers are not an afterthought. They are the Bombaby community: the women who choose colour over convention, who shop with intention, and who tell us — honestly and often — what they think. We listen. We ask. We act on it. The relationship goes both ways, and that is exactly how we want it.

Our team
At the heart of Bombaby's B Corp certification is our small, dedicated team in Jaipur. We hold all of our manufacturers to a formal code of conduct - but our Jaipur partners go far beyond it.
Our team members earn living wages, far beyond national minimum wages set by the governement. They receive paid holidays, including religious festival leave. Overtime is always compensated, also with a hot meal in the evening, too. Annual pay rises are standard, not a negotiation.
The workshop provides separate-sex toilet facilities, and we actively create opportunities for people with disabilities to train in new skills. These are not perks. They are what a decent business looks like.
planet
We are proud to be a zero-waste brand. Every scrap of fabric is recycled or repurposed. Our packaging is entirely natural and biodegradable. We plant a tree for every single order placed, without exception.
Our fabrics are chosen with as much care as everything else: GOTS certified cotton, azo-free dyes, and surplus or scrap fabrics used throughout our small production runs.
And because we believe our products are built to last, we offer lifelong repairs to every customer. Buy once, wear always.
Purpose
Purpose, at Bombaby, is structural. We have changed our articles of association to formally reflect our mission: to balance profit with the genuine needs of people and planet. It is written into how we operate as a business, not just how we talk about it.
We work predominantly with one production team in Jaipur: a deliberate choice. Spreading across multiple manufacturers would dilute our values. Instead, we invest deeply in a single partnership, visiting every year not only to develop our products, but to work on the workshop itself: health and safety, fire safety, facilities, and the wellbeing of the people within it.
Our team receive bonuses and festival gifts. They see their work celebrated on our social media, and they take genuine pride in it. We have never hidden our makers. We celebrate them - loudly and often - because they do not work for Bombaby. They are Bombaby. This is a partnership in the truest sense.
Every invoice is paid in advance. Every bill is settled early. Even in quiet seasons, we put the needs of our India partners first. When mistakes happen, as they do in any production process, we absorb the cost ourselves. Damaged or imperfect pieces go directly to our zero-waste outlet. Nothing is wasted. No one is penalised.

Being B Corp certified is one of our proudest achievements; not because we changed who we are to earn it, but because we were recognised for exactly who we have always been.
The standard will only rise. The accountability will only deepen. And we are here for every bit of it.
